 एशियाई महाद्वीप और हिंद महासागर में अपनी विशिष्ट स्थिति के कारण भारत में उष्णकटिबंधीय मानसून की जलवायु है। भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में गर्मियाँ गर्म और सर्दियाँ मध्यम ठंडी होती हैं। हिमालय में सर्दियाँ अत्यधिक ठंडी होती हैं जबकि गर्मियाँ मध्यम गर्म होती हैं।
